John Dumelo Commended Actress Yvonne Nelson For Choosing Friendship Over Political Allegiances

John Dumelo praised Yvonne Nelson for her friendship and for refusing to challenge him for the Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary seat, despite demands from specific members of the Akufo-Addo-led government. According to Dumelo, before the 2020 elections, some politicians attempted to position Yvonne against him, but she demonstrated remarkable maturity. Dumelo stated on Twitter, "I recollect @yvonnenelsongh contacting me prior to the 2020 elections to inform me that a close associate of the current president had asked her to run in Ayawaso West on the NPP ticket. Her precise words were, "I cannot do that to you, John." I denied their request. I cannot put our longstanding friendship at risk due to politics.'"

This development follows Yvonne's revelation in her book 'I Am Not Yvonne Nelson' that she was forced to have an abortion in 2010 by Sarkodie, the rapper who impregnated her and subsequently asked her to terminate the pregnancy. Yvonne stated that Sarkodie refused to assume parental responsibilities for the child because he was living with his mother at the time and was unprepared to assume the role of a father.

In the same memoir, which was released on June 18, 2023, Yvonne revealed that she received a call from a government official urging her to run for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency seat, while Dumelo was also running on the National Democratic Congress ticket to represent the people.
