Let us not destroy the unity of this party – Bawumia urges as he thanks delegates

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President of Ghana, has advised the rank and file members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to keep the party's unity in mind as the party goes through the process of nominating a flagbearer for the election that will take place the following year.

The competition for the party's flagbearership was entered by ten different people, one of them was Dr. Bawumia. On Saturday, the super delegates of the party went to the polls to choose five of the ten candidates to move on to the next stage of the election, which will take place in November. Dr. Bawumia was one of the candidates.

Today, Dr. Bawumia was declared the undisputed winner of the competition after receiving 629 of the 923 legitimate votes that were cast. The other nine candidates were left to compete for the remaining votes.

In his remarks to the media following his landslide victory at the Super Delegates Conference, Dr. Bawumia thanked delegates for the faith they had placed in him while also calling for the strengthening of the party's unity in order to ensure a united front for the primary election that will take place in the following year.

According to the Vice President, "the primary objective of the party is to win the elections in 2024, and we all need to work together to achieve that goal."

He continued by saying, "This will require a lot of unity from all of the various flagbearership aspirants, so we have to ensure that we don't destroy the unity of this party and that we don't have a situation where there are cracks in our ranks."

"In order for us to fight together after the internal election and win the general election, we need to close ranks and unite as a group.

"In order for us to break the eight, we are going to have to band together and show our support for whoever ends up winning. I have every reason to believe that I will come out on top."

The five individuals who were chosen, one of whom will be chosen on Saturday, September 2, and the other four on Saturday, November 4, will compete in the final round of voting to choose who will serve as the flagbearer.
