MPs, Chairman Wontumi to support NPP delegates in A/R to save Bawumia financial burden

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Region Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has revealed that Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Region, top gurus, and himself have decided to form a group to support delegates for Saturday's super delegates conference.

The group will cover the costs of water, food, transportation, and any event-related expenses.

"The Ashanti Region has already spoken and has decided to choose a leader who will lead us to break the eight," said Chairman Wontumi in an interview on Monday, August 21.

"I met with the MPs and some leaders, including some chiefs, in the Ashanti Region, and we appreciated what the Vice President has done for Asanteman, so he is exempt from bearing the cost of water, transportation, accommodation, food, and other miscellaneous expenses related to the primaries because we have decided to honor those obligations."

According to Chairman Wontumi, "the Vice President would be better advised to focus on the other regions since he and the Ashanti group have decided to provide the cash and other logistics required to cater for the delegates' interest."

The possibly most powerful chairman noted in the interview that the Vice President's concern for the development of the Ashanti Region is tremendous and ought to be honored, thus their decision.

"Dr Bawumia was instrumental in the President's decision to build the Bonkra Inland Port, the Kumasi Airport expansion, the Suame Interchange, the Konongo double lane corridor, and the Kumasi central market reconstruction project, among other things he lobbied for the region, so we say 'Ayekoo' and we'll reward him; Ashanti is known for rewarding good and hardworking people."

Chairman Wontumi emphasized that the gift should not be misinterpreted as an indirect campaign for the Vice President, but rather as a sign of appreciation for his hard work and dedication to the Ashanti Region.
