Medeama board chairman laments Ghana Premier League prize money

Dr. Tony Aubynn, a member of the board of directors for Medeama Sporting Club, has voiced concern over the club getting GHC300,000 as prize money for winning the Ghana Premier League.

The Tarkwa-based team will get the sum as a prize for their achievement of winning the league for the very first time. Concurrently, the club will begin making preparations for the upcoming season.

As a result of the club's position as winners, they will now have to make preparations for three different tournaments in addition to the Ghana Premier League and the FA Cup. The CAF winners League will be one of their tasks, while the other two will be the Ghana Premier League and the FA Cup.

Despite the fact that he was dissatisfied with the amount, Dr. Aubynn, who also serves on the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), lauded the GFA for its assistance to clubs in other ways while pointing out the limitations of the association in terms of delivering more substantial financial incentives.

"I quite agree that after the test of going through the league, if your reward is three hundred thousand (300,000) Ghana Cedis, it becomes very worrying," he said in an interview with Joy News. "It becomes very worrying when your reward is three hundred thousand (300,000) Ghana Cedis."

"But you are absolutely correct. You are unable to give away something that you do not possess. The Ghana Football Association is also responsible for a wide variety of other endeavors. It offers help in other areas as well.

"Back in the day, when lesser clubs had to purchase boots, footballs, and everything else, I remember. The FA makes an effort to supply at least some of these elements in modern times.
