Select executives comprised of opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) firebrands are in the Ashanti region and by extension Kumawu to rally party members and organize the NDC in preparation for the by-election.
However, the party has warned that it will not tolerate intimidation from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) or any obstinate faction of the Ashanti Regional Antwi Boasiako aka Wuntumi.
Mustapha Foyo Gbande, the NDC's Deputy General Secretary, issued the warning.
"There is no need for violence in Kumawu; the former member of parliament Basoah was like a brother and very kind to all; there is no need for mayhem. The NPP has a responsibility to be honest in this election, but if they bring the Wontumi principle to the Ashanti region, "we will not agree, and I repeat, we will not agree," he cautioned.
"We are on a business trip to our party, which encompasses Kumawu and all other constituencies. The NDC can work more effectively with Ashantis, and we are here because the Ashanti region is crucial to our return to power. We have approximately six national executives here in the region, this region belongs to our patriarch Otumfuo, and nobody will intimidate anyone or us here," he said.
