NPP Flagbearership contest: Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku unable to file nomination forms

Today, one of the New Patriotic Party's presidential candidates, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, was unable to submit his nomination papers.

This occurred after his documents were discovered to be insufficient.

The NPP stalwart attempted to submit his forms to the party's Presidential Elections Committee at the party's headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra, but was told to correct some errors and return.

After meeting with the committee, Kwame Obiri Nkansah, the Director of Communications for Dr. Konadu Apraku's campaign, explained to the media that the candidate's curriculum vitae and details of his personal contribution to the party were not included in the documents submitted.

"The procedure is straightforward. We omitted something, and the committee chairman has asked us to include it. They request his personal contribution to the party as well as his resume. We believed it was unnecessary because everyone already knew what he had done, but that is the request, so we will add those details.

We will hopefully return to filing on Friday or Saturday.

Alan Kyerematen, the former Minister of Trade and Industry, and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President, have both completed the procedure.

Mr. Kyerematen and Dr. Bawumia respectively submitted their forms on Monday, June 12, 2023 and Friday, June 16, 2023.

The NPP opened nominations on May 26, 2023, and candidates had until June 24 to submit their applications.

Ten presidential candidates have thus far submitted nomination papers to compete for the NPP's presidential candidate position.

They include: Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a former Minister of Food and Agriculture, Kennedy Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Mr Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, the immediate past Minister of Trade and Industry, Kwabena Adjei Agyapong, a former General-Secretary of the Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice-President of the Republic of Ghana, and Joe Ghartey, the Member of Parliament for Essikadu-Ketan and former Minister of Railway Development.

Boakye Agyarko, a former Minister of Energy, Prof. Addai Nimoh, a former Member of Parliament for Mampong, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, a former Minister of Trade and Industry, and Kwadwo Nsafoa Opoku, an expert on energy and associated matters, are the remaining members.

Only two of these have submitted their forms.
