NPP Super Delegates Conference: Bawumia grateful to God, delegates for emphatic win

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has thanked God for his decisive victory at the Super Delegates Conference of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Saturday. Bawumia's remarks came after the vice president delivered his acceptance speech.

Today, across the country, specially selected delegates of the ruling party went to the polls to begin the process of nominating a flagbearer for the elections that will take place in 2024.

The National Congress of the Special Electoral College was supposed to choose five of the ten candidates to move on to the next round of the process in November.

After receiving approximately 68.15 percent of the vote and emerging victorious, delegates made it quite apparent that they wanted Vice President Bawumia to be their pick for president. Kennedy Agyapong and Alan Kyerematen came in a distant second and third, respectively.

In his remarks to the media following the announcement of the results, Vice President Bawumia expressed gratitude to the Supreme Being, as well as to the party, for the convincing victory in the initial stage of the competition.

"I'm thankful to God for the decisive nature of my win today," the speaker said. Dr. Bawumia expressed his gratitude to the delegates, saying, "I am also thankful to the delegates for the overwhelming confidence they have shown in me." He went on to say that receiving more than two thirds of the votes while leaving the other nine candidates to split the remaining one third is a significant signal.

"The results of this election (Super Delegates) have left me feeling both extremely humbled and extremely grateful," she said.

Dr. Bawumia noted that his decisive victory in the Super Delegates Conference is only the first step toward winning the main competition in November, and that he and the delegates at all levels of the party would continue to work diligently to achieve that goal. Dr. Bawumia further stated that he will continue to win the main competition in November.

"This is just the first step on our journey to becoming the flagbearer.

He stated, "I see this as a step towards winning the flagbearership," which shows his perspective on the matter.

After the internal fight, Dr. Bawumia stated that the presidential election in the next year will be the most important election for the party. He urged for the strengthening of party unity in order for the party to go into that election with a united front.

"The most important election for the party is the win in the elections in 2024, and in order to achieve that goal, we all need to work together. Dr. Bawumia emphasized the need of maintaining the cohesiveness of the party as he spoke about its future. "This will require unity from all of the various flagbearership aspirants," he added.

"We ought to pull together as a group and tighten our ranks in order to fight together after the internal elections and triumph in the main election.

"In order for us to break the eight, we are going to have to band together and show our support for whoever ends up winning.

"I have every confidence that I will come out on top."
