The victims of the recent Kejetia market fire have urged the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to fulfill their promise of GHC100,000 to the merchants.
According to merchants, the funds will assist them in recovering a portion of their losses.
On Wednesday, March 15, a fire destroyed a portion of the Kejetia market, resulting in the loss of items worth millions of Ghana cedis.
Following the incident, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) pledged GHC100,000 to assist merchants whose Kejetia Market, Ashanti Region, stores were destroyed by fire.
The delegation, led by the General Secretary of the party, Justin Frimpong Kodua, was at the market to inspect the situation and interact with the affected victims.
"Knowing the predicament in which they find themselves, the party has pledged GHC100,000 to support the market women and men whose shops were destroyed," he added. "We are aware that the government will also have a package for them."
But on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, one of the victims' leaders, Frank Antwi, appealed to the NPP government via Kumasi's OTEC FM to keep its promise.
He disclosed to the presenter of the program, Captain Koda, that they only received a GHC100,000 contribution from NPP presidential candidate Alan Kyerematen.
