Robbery; Tipper Truck Driver Sentenced to 40 Years in Prison

Adamu Issah, a Tipper lorry driver from Tamale in the Northern region, has been sentenced to forty years in prison by a Tamale High Court. Adamu was judged guilty of both robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.

The convict and his accomplice, Alhassan, who is at large, commandeered a Toyota Hilux pick-up in Gbanyamni, a suburb of Tamale, on May 24, 2022. The vehicle contained a laptop, mobile phones, money, and other items.

According to the facts, Adamu Issah and his accomplice confronted the victim at gunpoint upon his return home from work. They then entered the victim's car, searched for and stole his mobile phone, and demanded access to it.

The victim then filed a police report, which led to the apprehension of the convict, who was on trial for a criminal offense in a Tamale circuit court at the time.

During the trial, prosecutors scoured the residence of the defendant and discovered evidence linking him to the crime, including a flash drive, laptops, and other items.

On the basis of the evidence presented by the prosecution, the court presided by Justice Eric Ansah Ankomah convicted and sentenced the suspect to forty years in prison.

Concurrently, the defendant is being tried for a second robbery offense.

In 2016, the offender and his accomplice stole a Toyota Hilux pickup with the registration number GM8523-14 that belonged to MTN, a Tamale-based telecommunications company. He was arrested in Togo and handed over to the Ghana police, where he was subsequently convicted and sentenced to two years in prison.

According to the information available to Citi News, the convicted car thief has been involved in multiple vehicle thefts in the northern region, and it is believed that he operates with an international criminal syndicate.

Over four vehicles, including a V8, belonging to National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Chair Sofo Azoka were stolen at gunpoint in Tamale between 2016 and 2022.
