Sam George Lauds Police Deployed By IGP For Assin North By-election

Sam Nartey George, the representative for Ningo Prampram, praised the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, for his deployment to Assin North prior to and during Tuesday's by-elections.

He stated that the police stood their ground and maintained security, particularly at the various polling stations where "enough" officers deterred criminals.

"All due respect to the security agencies. IGP Dampare is one of my biggest critics, so when I encountered him in Assin North at Gangan A and B Polling Station, I told him, "IGP, I commend you for the deployment you've executed today."

You are aware that I have been critical of you, but I must congratulate you on your deployment today. "I am pleased with you," he disclosed.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) representative claims that he owes the IGP not only a contrite pie, but also a "whole" cake at the police headquarters for the work completed on Tuesday "because the police were on the beat."

In a meeting held prior to the election, the IGP demanded that all bodyguards of officials who would be present during the election give over their weapons.

Sam George stated that he initially disagreed with this directive, but later acknowledged that it was one of the IGP's proved decisions.

"They stated that, as a member of parliament, my official bodyguard was not permitted to carry his weapon.

I didn't understand why, but the IGP persisted on it and stated that nobody should carry weapons, despite the fact that we observed some NPP private security personnel in plain clothes carrying firearms.

At the polling station, however, there was sufficient police presence to deter any NPP miscreants who were present, so I applaud them.
