Sarkodie went behind me to take GHC120,000 for the Glo concert after we agreed on $150,000 – Shatta Wale opens up

Fans are left wondering what precisely led to Ghanaian music giants Shatta Wale and Sarkodie's falling out as their once unshakable connection has been tarnished by controversy and disagreement, leaving fans asking what exactly led to their falling out.

On Wednesday, August 23, 2023, however, dancehall artist Shatta Wale finally addressed the issue of what caused the rupture in a Twitter Space conversation with media personality Serwaa Amihere.

According to the 'Ayoo' singer, the origin of this rift can be traced back to the historic Glo Mega-Concert that took place on October 25, 2018.

It was a monumental occurrence that would prove to be a defining point in the friendship that existed between Shatta Wale and Sarkodie.

Due to the fact that they are two prominent names in the Ghanaian music scene, their collaboration and unity carry a significant amount of weight.

After some preliminary back and forth, the two musicians came to the conclusion that they would ask for a total of one hundred fifty thousand dollars for their participation in the Glo deal. The cohesiveness of their request for financial support revealed a lot about their sense of camaraderie and the same goals they all shared.

When it came time to actually carry out the transaction, however, the plot took a surprising and unanticipated turn. Sarkodie made the decision to take GHC120,000 (roughly $20,000 less) from Glo, and the reasons for this decision will stay confidential.

The disparity between their preliminary agreement and the final settlement became a source of dissatisfaction for both parties.

"They paid him like GHC 120,000 but we had agreed on $150,000 and this matter is from 4-5 years ago so when I heard it, I was like I spoke to this person a few days ago so I called him and I asked him and he said, Yes, they've paid us good money but I told you they can pay more even in dollars," he disclosed. "When I heard it, I was like I spoke to this person a few days ago so I called him and I asked him and he said

The fact that the organizers appeared to undervalue Shatta Wale's participation by only paying him a compensation of $131,000 for his work rather than the initial proposal of $150,000 added fuel to the fire.

Shatta Wale's estimation of his own worth and his standing in the industry took a severe hit as a direct result of this move.

A Rift in the Relationship of Friendship

Their different reactions to this gap were eventually the cause of the rift that developed between the two music industry titans. Shatta Wale had called for a boycott of the show because he believed that the reduced offer was an insult to the worth of their work.

In his view, unity should have entailed maintaining a united front when negotiating their value. Unfortuitously, Sarkodie went ahead and performed at the event, taking the amount of money that was offered to him in exchange for his services.

The sadness and fury that Shatta Wale was feeling found an outlet in social media, where he vented his dissatisfaction with life.

The connection between them was irreparably damaged as a result of this airing of their grievances in public. Not only inside the music industry, but also within their passionate fan communities, the effects are still being felt to this day.
