The second senior police witness in the investigation into the disclosed audio recording concerning the dismissal of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) asserts that the recording has been altered.
Superintendent George Asare asserts that the tape is insufficient, and his intelligence indicates to IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare as the mastermind behind the entire recording and leak.
On September 4, Superintendent Asare appeared before the seven-member committee.
Asked whether he indeed had a conversation with former Northern Region Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Daniel Bugri Naabu, he said: "I gave supplementary information to him which was not in the tape.
"This is only to illustrate that the tape has been altered."
Previously, he had described the entire recording as "cut and paste"
"Mr. Chair, there is some cut-and-paste on the audio, but my voice is present nonetheless," he told the committee.
This is consistent with the testimony provided by the Director General of Operations, George Alex Mensah, who also testified before the committee.
"Hon Chair, I have identified some voices that resemble my own, but I cannot confirm that these are my voices," he emphasized on August 31.
Each has pointed a finger of suspicion at the IGP for the disclosure.
According to Supt. Asare, the two "boys" sent to deliver Chief Bugri Naabu's resume to the IGP have indicated their willingness to testify before the committee.
In the meantime, he has promised to disclose more about the operations of the current IGP behind closed doors.
"I am more than willing to discuss this issue in front of the camera if necessary."
