Stop Blaming Mahama's Defeat In C/R On Prof Jane Naana – Kwasi Ahwoi

Former Minister of Agriculture and Ex-Ambassador of Ghana to South Africa, Kwasi Ahwoi, has stated that those who blame National Democratic Congress NDC 2020 running mate Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang for the party's loss in her home region in 2020 lack the ability to calculate.

According to him, "it is the party, not the individual, that brings in the numbers." He argued that the strength of the party reflects on the individual and not the other way around, so John Mahama's loss in the Central Region cannot be attributed to his running companion in 2020.

Despite having a running companion from the region, the NDC under the leadership of John Mahama lost the Central Region to Nana Akufo-Addo in 2020.

Nana Akufo-Addo and Bawumia received 602,111 ballots, or 52.71 percent, while John Mahama and Prof. Jane Naana received 522,038 votes, or 45.87 percent.

This resulted in accusations that, despite being from the region, the Running Mate did not contribute any value to the party.

Prof. Jane Naana cannot be faulted, according to Kwasi Ahwoi, despite the party's 2020 defeat in the region, because "most people do not calculate things well."

According to him, the Central Region is comprised of not only Fantes but also Akyems, Denkyiras, and Ashantes; therefore, choosing a Fante did not guarantee ballots.

"It is the party, not the individual, that brings in the statistics. If the party is powerful, the candidate merely reflects the party. However, she [Professor Jane Naana] also has a constituency from which she can draw resources and people. Most people are not accurately calculating the situation; they believe we lost in the central region." He added.

"We lost the Central Region presidential election because people forgot that the Central Region is indeterminate. It's not just Fantes. Central region is a combination of Ashantes, Akyems, Denkyiras, etc., so don't look at Fante and declare that Naana should bring Central region because she is a Fante, no! We must go further than that".
