Students at GHANASCO Free SHS Receive Multiple Slaps While Kneeling (Video): GES Should Exhibit Leadership

A video released by Kevin Taylor and viewed by GhanaEducation.org depicts Ghanasco Free SHS Students on their knees "EATING TEACHERS DIRTY SLAPS."

A man in a blue top and blue trousers, who appears to be a school teacher or housemaster, can be seen delivering heavy, dirty slaps to the cheeks of male students while they were on their knees.

Is this the new GES-approved method for rectifying Free SHS students? If so, it must also be described in the school's prospectus.

The video depicted three male pupils receiving dirty slaps from their teacher while on their knees.

The man who is physically assaulting students in the name of correcting them can be heard directing the students to approach him for their share of the beatings.

The Ghana Education Service appears to have failed to prevent such violations of human rights in our country's second-cycle institutions.

According to the GES code of conduct, the content of the video is never permitted. This teacher or housemaster is abusing his or her students, and he or she is relishing the abuse.

The behavior documented on video is an everyday occurrence at school.

As evidenced by the attached video, parents did not send their children to school to be abused and struck. This is extremely inhumane and uncalled for; the GES must take action.

The GES is so lax, ineffective, and tardy in its response to abusive practices in secondary institutions. The case of the Annor Adjaye SHS pupils who were cruelly flogged on Mother's Day remains unresolved. The Ghana Education Service will not sweep this specific conduct under the rug.

Enough with these barbaric actions committed in the name of discipline by so-called instructors and educators in our public senior high schools.

The teacher or housemaster, who should have known better, just mistreated and dehumanized each of the three helpless male students.

The text accompanying the video shared by Kevin Taylor read, "This is what is happening to our children under this ineffective Free SHS.

This incident occurred at Ghanasco, and I anticipate that the Ghana education service will move swiftly to apprehend this insane teacher. I will return for more."

The GES must demonstrate leadership and resolve to find a permanent solution to the ongoing maltreatment of students in the name of punishment.

Parents whose children are in Junior High School should not be complacent, as their children will soon attend such institutions and may be subjected to similar abuse. If your ward is in secondary school, you should investigate their treatment and report any maltreatment to the Ghana Police.

Observe something and remark on it.
