Tell the source of your money to stop the speculation – Opoku Antwi tells Cecilia Dapaah

Professor Enoch Opoku Antwi, an authority on governance and leadership, has asked Cecilia Abena Dapaah, a former minister of sanitation and water resources, to reveal the origin of her wealth. Dapaah was formerly in charge of both departments.

Prof. Antwi is of the opinion that if she talks, it will put an end to all of the speculation that has been created over the origin of her money.

"Come out and tell us the source of the money to stop the speculation," he remarked on the Key Points program that was broadcast on TV3 on the 12th of August.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor has stated that a total of $590,000 and GH2.73 million were discovered inside the residence of Cecilia Dapaah in Abelemkpe, which is a suburb of Accra.

After conducting a search, personnel from the Office came to this conclusion.

On Tuesday, August 8, the Office of the State Prosecutor (OSP) presented a writ to a High Court in Accra, which validated this information.

The hearing on the matter will now take place on Thursday, August 17 according to the new schedule.

The OSP said in the writ that the search was started in accordance with LI2374 after numerous information pointed to some money that was still secreted in the home of the former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources. The writ was seen by 3news.com.

After she filed a report with the authorities about some missing money from her residence, she was inundated with complaints regarding the incident.

"On July 24, 2023, the Office of Special Prosecutions (OSP) placed the defendant under arrest on charges of corruption and offenses related to corruption.

"The OSP subsequently conducted searches in three residential properties associated with the respondent in Accra. These properties were located in Cantonments, Abelemkpe, and Tesano."

It was reported that $590,000 and GH2,730,000 were discovered at the residence of Abelemkpe.

"Authorized officers of the OSP seized the discovered cash sums on reasonable grounds that they were suspected tainted property in accordance with section 32(1) of Act 959 as it was necessary to exercise the power of seizure to prevent concealment of the cash sums," the sentence reads. "Acting in accordance with this provision, it was necessary to exercise the power of seizure to prevent concealment of the cash sums."

In addition, it stated that as part of the overall investigations into the problem, a freezing order had been issued against the bank accounts and investments of Madam Abena Dapaah in accordance with section 38(1) of Act 959 and regulation 19(1) of LI 2374. This was reported to be done as part of the overall investigations into the matter.

Both the accounts and the investments may be found at the Societe Generale Ghana and the Prudential Bank Limited.
