US Ambassador visits U/E to inaugurate USAID-rehabilitated office for House of Chiefs

This week, Virginia E. Palmer, the U.S. ambassador to Ghana, visited Bolgatanga and the Upper East Region.

The Ambassador accompanied Vice President Bawumia, the Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu, and the Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, the Honorable Stephen Asamoah Boateng, to inaugurate the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs office in Bolgatanga after its rehabilitation.

Ambassador Palmer stated at the inauguration ceremony, "The U.S. Government stands together with local partners in the Upper East to advance their goals of promoting peace, improving livelihoods, and increasing community well-being for more cohesive and resilient communities."

The United States government provided funding for the renovation of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs facility.

The newly renovated building provides Chiefs, Queen Mothers, and technical staff with a conducive and inclusive space for meetings, work, and training.

As part of its commitment to promoting community cohesion and peace and stability in Ghana, the U.S. Agency for International Development contributed more than $140,000 toward the rehabilitation of the Upper East House of Chiefs building.

Ambassador Palmer met with women traditional leaders, grantees and partners of the U.S. Embassy, alumni of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, and participants in other U.S. Government exchange programs during her two-day mission.
