Commander of Small Scale Miners Association Taskforce Shot at Eastern Region Mining Site

Manhunt Initiated for Alleged Shooter of Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners Taskforce Commander

In the Eastern Region, authorities are currently conducting a search for an individual known as Danso. He serves as a youth leader and works as a miner in Asamang Tamfoe, Atewa East District. Danso is sought for his alleged involvement in the shooting of Major Patrick Don-Chebe, the Commanding Officer of the Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners Taskforce.

Per sources from Citi News, on October 18, 2023, Danso and his associate, Joe, who is also a miner, visited a mining site in Asamang Tamfoe. The taskforce, acting on a tip, had gone there to crackdown on illicit mining activities. It is purported that Danso and Joe intended to thwart their apprehension.

Joe was visibly armed upon arrival at the site. While taskforce members were engaged in disarming Joe, Danso seized the opportunity, producing a concealed pistol from beneath his shirt. He discharged it at close range, striking Major Patrick Don-Chebe in the ribs.

Subsequent to the incident, Danso and Joe successfully evaded capture while taskforce members hastened to assist their injured commander. Major Patrick Don-Chebe was promptly transported to the Kibi government hospital for medical attention. Due to the gravity of his injuries, he was subsequently transferred to the 37 military hospital, where he underwent immediate surgery.

Upon receiving notification of the occurrence, local law enforcement apprehended Joe, though Danso remains at large. A manhunt is presently underway to locate and apprehend him.

The police are actively conducting an inquiry into the shooting and are taking measures to ensure the suspect is brought to justice.
