Electrochem Ghana Limited to Hire 7000 Youth

By the time the Electrochem Ghana Limited songor salt project is fully operational the following year, almost 7,000 young people in Ghana will have jobs.

Currently, the project's first phase has employed 3000 people, and when the salt concession begins full operations in 2024, 4,000 more people will be hired.

This information was provided by Dr. Daniel Mckorley, CEO of the McDan Group, at the commissioning of Electrochem's salt mine and processing facility in Ada, Ghana.

With the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's commissioning, Electrochem will become the primary source of salt in Africa.

"This is only the first phase of the project, and once the refinery and other sections are complete, we could lead the country's industrialization drive by creating jobs and stimulating the economy," he said.

After the last phase, he claimed, a chemical university would be created to promote Ghana's industrialization.

Dr. McKorley and Electrochem were praised by President Nana Akufo-Addo for maximising the songor lagoon's potential.

He said that this was the first time in Ghana's history that a native-born businessman owned one of the largest salt refineries in Africa.

He claimed that Ghana could provide salt to Nigeria and other countries, eliminating the need to import salt from Europe.
