GHANA is one unique African nation - Portuguese President

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, Portugal's president, lauded Ghana's democratic culture.

He praised Ghanaians for championing the rule of law, political stability, and peaceful coexistence among African states.

Ghana is unique in Africa. "You are special," President Rebelo de Sousa said.

In Lisbon, Portugal, he had a press conference with Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

President Nana Akufo-Addo is on a three-day State visit to strengthen bilateral relations.

The goal is to increase political, cultural, and socioeconomic exchanges among people.

West Africa wants to strengthen multilateral collaboration, improve the world, and address global SDG challenges.

Portugal's 15th-century relations to Ghana are the longest in Europe.


President Rebelo de Sousa stated his country will do business with Ghana because they shared development experiences and handled global concerns.

“These make good bilateral relations between the two countries easy,” he said.

President Nana Akufo-Addo thanked Portugal for supporting Ghana's interests in the EU.

He hoped the State visit will boost trade and bring development to the people.

He said his administration looked forward to strengthening ties with Portugal as Ghana strove to eliminate poverty.

The country will collaborate with Europe to prevent irregular migration, insecurity, and human rights abuses.

Climate change, violent extremism, piracy, and human trafficking are among issues.
