Hearts of Oak appoints Larryea Kingston as head coach

Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston is being considered for a coaching job at Hearts of Oak ahead of next football season.

The Phobians are currently without a permanent head coach following the departure of David Ocloo.

The club confirmed on Wednesday that it had severed ties with former Asante assistant coach Kotoko.

According to reports, the Phobians are in talks with the assistant coach of the Ghana U17 team to take over as head coach ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Laryea spent two seasons as a player for the Accra-based team, the first from 2001-2003 and the second at the end of his career in the 2012-13 season. Earlier this year, Kingston was selected to replace Paa Kwesi Fabin staff as assistant coach of Black Starlets.

He's in charge of the team when they enter UEFA's Four Nations League in 2023, when they finish as champions after winning every game.

David Ocloo, who initially joined the team as an assistant manager, was selected as interim coach, when Slavko Matic was forced to resign midway through the 2022-23 betPawa Ghana Premier League season.

Hearts of Oak came in at 12th, narrowly being relegated on the final day of the campaign.

The Ghana 2023/24 Premier Football League will kick off in September. Kingston represented Ghana with the Black Stars, from 2002 to 2010. Before that, he was the coach of the Right to Dream Academy youth team.
