Residents of Janga appeal to government to complete the Nasia-Janga abandoned Road

Inhabitants of Janga in West Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region are calling on the government to complete the abandoned Janga-Nasia road for them to improve economic activities.

The residents say a sod-cutting ceremony was held to construct the road in 2017 by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia but has still not been worked on.

The road which is linking the two communities, and others in the area is at a snail's pace since 2017.
Meanwhile, it was announced that the road will be completed within one year hence, has been abandoned at the moment.

The contractor spread the gravel from Nasia to Janga but tarred the first phase from Nasia to Nakpaya just 6 kilometres from Nasia town and 1 kilometre in Janga township leaving the middle of the road untarred with potholes.

The residents say the government should consider bringing the contractor back to the site as he has evacuated all his machinery from the area for close to a year.



They added that the contractor has left the site leaving no equipment behind to show that he will return to the site to continue the work.



The appeal of the residents was made to the President during a colourful Damma Festival organized by the chief of the Soo Traditional area, Naa Maligu Natomah Seidu With the theme, "Mobilizing together for sustainable development."

The youth of the community represented by their secretary, Seidu Ibrahim appealed that the government should consider working on the road to improve economic activities in the area.

"We want the government to come in and ensure that our only road that is linking Janga to Nasia is completed. It is affecting economic activities.

"And the other town roads that have been initiated, we want the government to come in and make sure that they are completed," Seidu Ibrahim said.

He reiterated that the road is inaccessible whenever it rains.

"When it rains, it is not motorable. So, we are appealing to the government to come and work on the main road and gravel the town roads so that they can be motorable," he appealed.

They also appeal to the government to upgrade the only polyclinic in the area to a hospital status to enhance quality healthcare delivery.
