NPP Primaries: Tamale South comes to a standstill as UDS student submits nomination forms

Hundreds of New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters thronged the party’s Tamale South constituency office to support Alhaji Baba Alhassan, the young University for Development Studies (UDS) student who is contesting the party’s parliamentary primaries, to submit his nomination forms.
The party faithful who were mostly grassroots executives of the party lined up on the principal streets of the Tamale Metropolis in cars and motorbikes, bringing the constituency to a standstill as many wanted to catch a glimpse of the Level 300 Social Change Communication student of the University.
Alhaji Alhassan has won the admiration of many young people in Tamale for daring to contest the NPP’s Parliamentary primaries and vowing to unseat former Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu who has been the MP for Tamale South since 2004.
He is one of four Aspirants contesting the NPP primaries in the constituency.
Alhaji Alhassan told journalists after submitting his nominations that the Tamale South Constituency was yearning for change, adding that it was evident from the crowd that accompanied him to submit his nomination.

“Our constituency is yearning for change, you can see from the huge crowds that are following me. I can tell you for a fact that these people are not just NPP sympathizers, there are also NDC people as well as non-partisan people who just want change” he said.
He said the time had come for young people to take their destinies into their own hands by contesting people who belong to “the old system and are not providing solutions to our numerous challenges”.
Alhaji Alhassan reiterated his commitment to work assiduously to snatch the Tamale South seat for the NPP and also work to better the lives of the people of Tamale South.
He added that he was optimistic about his chances of winning the primaries because his campaign was not only championed by the youth of the party but also polling station executives of the party who make up the majority of the party’s delegates.
