Over 20 NPP executives pick form for UDS student eying Tamale South seat

Over 20 New Patriotic Party (NPP) polling station executives on Thursday picked up nomination forms for Alhaji Baba Alhassan, the level 300 student of the University for Development Studies who has vowed to unseat former Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu.

The polling station executives of the NPP in the Tamale South Constituency believe that the Social Change Communication student is the best candidate to snatch the Tamale South seat for the party, for the first time since 2004.

The executives say they picked the form for Alhaji Alhassan as a gesture to show their total support and commitment to ensuring that he wins the primaries of the party scheduled for later this year.

Sulemana Yakubu, Polling Station Chairman at Nuriya Islamic and one of the polling stations executives said they were all out to ensure Alhaji Alhassan wins the election "hands down".

"We believe that he is the best person to win this seat for us. He has the same vision the late Mustapha Ali Iddris had for the constituency and we believe when he becomes the MP, he will work exactly like Mustapha Ali or even more" he said.

"So far among the candidates, he is the only one who has showed us his blueprint towards unseating Haruna Iddrisu and we're convinced he will defeat him in 2024" he continued.

Alhaji Baba Alhassan expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the group for its gesture and pledged to engage in a campaign that centers on issues bothering the party and the entire people of the Tamale South constituency.

He told Justicefmonline in an interview that his policies and plans for the party included working effectively with the grassroots of the party to revamp people's hopes in the constituency.

Alhaji Alhassan maintained that his target was not just to be an NPP Parliamentary Candidate but to snatch the seat from the former Minority Leader who he claimed has woefully failed to alleviate the suffering of the masses.

He said " I don't just want to be a parliamentary candidate, I want to unseat Haruna Iddrisu. People think I'm not serious because they claim he is powerful but do I need to remind them how Haruna unseated our late father Mustapha Ali? What did he have? How old was he? Was it magic? No, the people liked him just like they like me now and voted for him.

"I just want you to know that history will repeat itself in 2024 where a young graduate will unseat one of the most powerful MPs in Ghana" he added.
