Tamale North MP supports over 1,000 BECE candidates with exams materials, money for snacks



The Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhassan S Suhuyini has supported over 1,000 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates in his constituency with examination materials and a cash of Gh¢20 each.
The examination materials include mathematical sets, long rules and pens.
The Gh¢20 cash given each of the over 1,000 candidates which summed up to over Gh¢20,000 is to assist them get snacks for breakfast for the duration of the examination as most of the candidates need to leave as early as 5am to be able to get to their examination centers on time.
The support package is part of efforts to motivate the students and adequately prepare them ahead of the five day examination which begins on Monday, August 7.
The MP had earlier organized free extra tuition for the candidates who said it has been impactful and helped them adequately prepare for the examination.
Some of the candidates told journalists at a ceremony in Tamale to climax the extra classes that the extra classes “helped us to understand a lot of the things we were taught in our schools that appeared difficult to understand.”


They promised to do their best in the examination to ensure the resources invested in them did not go waste.
Speaking to the media after the presentation, Mr Alhasaan Suhuyini said education remained a key priority to him, hence his decision to continue to invest in the sector.
He said the extra tuition classes were organized in four zones of the constituency to ensure as many students were covered.
“Because of the patronage, we zoned the constituency in four zones, so that every community would have the opportunity of having a center close to it so that students who are BECE candidates living in the constituency would not have to travel long distances to take advantage of these extra classes” he explained how the classes were organized.
He said previous editions of the free extra tuition yielded very positive results as the statistics indicate that most of the participants had passed and gained admission into Senior High Schools of their choice.
He said the candidates were also given career guidance and counseling “so that you are prepared to expect what you’ll encounter in the exams hall and what you’ll encounter in life after school”.
The MP promised to support brilliant but needy students among the beneficiary students to complete their tertiary education. This he emphasized was important in the eradication of illiteracy, poverty and hunger in the constituency.
