Unite NR NDC to save your future Presidential ambition – Azorka tells Haruna Iddrisu

The First Vice Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). Chief Awudu Sofo Azorka has charged Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu to do everything possible to unite the rank and file of the party in the Northern Region.

According to him, a divided Northern Region-which is where the Minority Leader comes from, is detrimental to the any future Presidential ambition of the Tamale South Legislator.

Many have attributed the bad performance of the NDC in parliamentary elections in recent years in the Northern Region to the sharp division within the party.

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has since the 2012 Presidential and Parliamentary made huge parliamentary gains in the Northern Region, gaining three (3) to NDC’s 12 in 2008, six (6) to NDC’s 11 in 2016 and a remarkable nine (9) to the NDC’s nine (9) in 2020, which included snatching the traditional NDC seats of Mion, Karaga and while maintaining Tolon.

Chief Sofo Azorka believes the disunity in the NDC in the Northern Region caused the party’s loss of its seats in the region which was regarded as one the strongholds of the umbrella party in the country.

Speaking on TV XYZ on Tuesday, January 10, the outspoken NDC National Executive called on the Tamale South MP to find a solution to the disunity of the party in his home region.

Speaking in his native Dagbanli language, Chief Sofo Azorka said “I want to tell you, especially Hon. Haruna [Iddrisu], my junior brother, because you are the Minority Leader. Go back home and call everyone and sit together and see if the NPP can snatch any seat from us again. I am begging you, don’t think this is an insult, I just want you to fix it, so that one day when it’s your turn [to be NDC Flagbearer], we can have something [good about you] to say”.

He advised the Minority Leader to stop listening to the ill-advise of the hidden faces telling him not to work for the unity of the party in the region, noting that “You see those who are pushing you not to agree, when that day comes, they can’t follow you round to campaign for you, we will be leading the convoy”.

Chief Sofo Azorka said going around the country during his campaign for election as 1st Vice Chairman of the NDC late last year, party people were particularly interested in events happening in the Northern Region.

“When I was going round the country campaigning, one question everyone was asking was why we now have equal number of seats with the NPP in the Northern Region. Let’s fear God and drop the unnecessary bickering and respect each other… Let us unite because we all know that when we’re united, the NPP cannot win in the Northern Region” he stated.
