Abuakwa North: PWDs Receive Support From Assembly



The Honourable Alhaji Umar Babs Bodinga led Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region of Ghana, has on the 31st December, 2022, presented items to some twenty-nine registered Persons Living With Disability in the Municipality.

According to the Municipal Chief Executive, the Start-up Capital Initiative forms part of the Nana Akufo-Addo led NPP Government's human capacity building agenda for poverty eradication of which no individual is supposed to be left out.

Honourable Alhaji Umar Babs Bodinga explained that, the Assembly has since 2019 presented Start-up Capital to PWDs except 2021 when the COVID 19 pandemic hit the country.

He mentioned that, the source of funding was from the Assembly's common fund and said, the Assembly since it's inception, 2019 has presented to one hundred and ninty-one (191) out of five hundred and sixty (560) registered PWDs with fifty (50) persons benefiting in the year 2022.

He called on Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs),Civil Society Organizations, Philanthropists and all well meaning persons to come to the Assembly's aid to do more.



He continued by commending the President for his vision for the PWDs hence this policy which is transforming their lives economically in the Municipality.



He further thanked the President for his continuous support to the Municipality and Ghana as a whole.



The hard working MCE admonished all the beneficiaries to use the items for the purpose of which they were presented for.

He added that, officials from the Social Welfare and Community Development Department of the Assembly will be visiting them regularly for monitoring.

Mrs Mercy Amosah, Municipal Social Welfare Officer for Abuakwa North at her part said, background checks of the beneficiaries were made before their preferred items were procured and presented.

She added that, the initiative covers education and health aspects of the PWDs.

She again entreated all to bring their relatives living with disability to the Assembly for registration for same support instead of going begging on the streets.


Some of the items presented include, chest freezers with automatic voltage regulators and bags of sachet water, sewing machines, spraying machine, popcorn making machine with a bag of maize, leather work tools and inputs etc.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke Nana Kwasi Asare could not hide their joy and expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Assembly and Government in general and assured that, the items received will be put into good use for their economic benefit and development of the Municipality and Ghana as a whole.
