E/R: Abuakwa North MCE Ushers In CPA Personnel

Honourable Alhaji Umar Babs Bodinga, Municipal Chief Executive who doubles as the Chairman of the Abuakwa North Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) in the Eastern Region of Ghana, has today 6th January, 2023 ushered in the first batch of the 2022/2023 Community Protection Assistants into the Municipality to help combat crime.

The personnel numbered fifteen (15) under the auspices of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) were trained by the Ghana Police Service to beef up security in the Municipality.

Honourable Alhaji Umar Babs Bodinga addressing the personnel said, the Nana Akufo-Addo led Government is committed to youth employment which is geared towards curbing the youth unemployment gab.

He added that, apart from security, the health sector has also benefited from same flagship initiative in the Municipality.

The Municipal Chief Executive entreated the CPAs to be law abiding, submissive to authority, punctual and dedicated to duty with all seriousness to ensure that, their core mandate and that of Government is achieved for the socio-economic development of the Municipality and the Country as a whole.

He further presented their appointment document which was earlier handed over to him by the Abuakwa North Youth Employment Agency Director, Mr Michael Okoampah Agyeman, to Superintendent Isaac Ampofo, New Tafo Akyem District Police Commander, and retreated that, their appointments could be revoked if they display gross indiscipline and incompetence.

Mr Michael Okoampah Agyeman advised the personnel to be of good behavior since the monitoring and evaluation team will be visiting their various stations of work to assess their inputs.

He again admonished them to be ambassadors of the Nana Akufo-Addo led Government to help break the eight (8) year electoral cycle of which they have been direct beneficiaries.

Superintendent Isaac Ampofo in his submission, admonished the CPAs to abide by all ethics and rules of the Ghana Police Service where they are going to serve for the next two years.

He further pleaded with Government through the Ministry of Interior and all who matter, to consider absorbing some of the Community Protection Assistants into the main stream of the Ghana Police Service upon recommendations from their various station superiors since they have acquired basic training in terms of policing. This he said, will help solve youth unemployment in the country.

He further pledged the District Command's full support to the CPAs and added that, their presence will boost police visibility in the Municipality.

Also present at the short ceremony were Mr John Ankrah, Abuakwa North Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr Seth Ofori Dei, Deputy National Disaster Management Organization Director who represented the Member of Parliament for the enclave, Honourable Gifty Twum-Ampofo and the press.

Meanwhile, the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has increased the monthly allowances paid to the Community Protection Assistants (CPAs) by 30 per cent. With the upward adjustment, the beneficiaries would now receive a sum of GH¢500 as monthly allowances effective January 2023.
