GHANA IS ONE OF THE AFRICAN COUNTRIES TO BENEFIT FROM MANUFACTURING OF REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH MEDICINE - DIRECTOR FOR RHSC, MARTYN SMITH

General membership of the Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition has justified Ghana's resilience towards reproductive health services despite the challenges faced by the covid -19 pandemic and impeding the production supplies of reproductive health products.


The Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition (RHSC) in collaboration with Ghana health service has brought its members together as they reflect on the pandemic impacts on money, related markets and supply chain and movements, drawing lessons from how sector's response and celebrating its unique resilience under the theme Resilience.


Speaking at the general membership meeting of their Reproductive Health Supplies Collision on thursday 19th October 2023 in Accra, Martyn Smith director for the Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition said the disruption during 2021/2022 of the supply chain during the Pandemic calls for the need to play the long gave game. He said ' we need to play the long game here'. we need to understand that it's going to take a lot small steps were Ghana, Kenya,Nigeria, South Africa or other Countries on the continent for that matter are able to manufacture high quality reproductive health supplies at a very good unique cost can be then supply to the continent but that is a dream that can be reality if the right measures and political Will in place. Ghana is an exampiry country in a region is very open to this conversation he added.




He admitted that the African medicine agency which is being establish by the African Union is just getting started and it has crucial role to play a long way with West African health organizations in the manufacturing of reproductive health products.




RHSC Director disclosed that manufacturing in India or China every Reproductive Health Supplies from domestic sources they did not take just a year or two, it was step by step progression for some years ago project.




He also opined to the fact that Ghana is one of the African countries to benefits from manufacturing of Reproductive Health Medicine and there are steps to be taken before it will be considered by the Ghana government.


Dr Maureen Martey Head of Bilateral Resource Mobilization at ghana Ministry Of Health said Ghana Health Service during the covid, did not stop providing Reproductive Health Services, despite the COVID-19 and it's challenges.


She added that Ghana Health Service will continue to provide service and what their strategic plan is in terms of the Reproductive, Material Newborn Child, Adolescent Health and Nutrition is their main focus.


Again she said logistic management information system has been linked to the Global Family Planning Visibility Analytic Network (GFPVAN) actually helps to have end-to-end visibility in terms of stock situation on family planning medicine.


Finally Dr Maureen Martey concluded by saying Ghana Health Service is delighted to co-host the 2023 general meeting of the Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition because RHSC has Ghana on top in terms of Resilience.
