Asante Kotoko Owner Urges Coach Prosper Ogum to Prioritise Team building Over Trophies

The newly appointed head coach of Asante Kotoko, Prosper Narteh Ogum, has been given the advice by the owner of Asante Kotoko, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to prioritise the growth of the team rather than focusing entirely on the pursuit of trophies.

Ogum, who is 46 years old, was formally presented to the club on Monday at the Baba Yara Stadium's Conference Room. This event marked his return to the organisation, which he previously coached to a triumph in the Premier League during the 2021/22 season.

Ahead of the 2023–2024 football season, Otumfuo gave a speech to the assembled playing squad and technical staff at Manhyia. In his speech, Otumfuo emphasised the significance of establishing a cohesive team and cautioned against being overly eager to obtain honours.

"Don't get your hopes up on winning a trophy with the Club. Instead, you should concentrate on building it up. "I am fine with it if the players are able to win a trophy, but don't rush for a cup," Otumfuo stated. "I am fine with it if the players are able to win a cup."

The club's owner acknowledged that winning the African Cup would be a source of pride for the organisation, but he emphasised that the expansion of the club as a whole is his primary focus at this time. He gave the head coach his word that he would always be there to provide the essential support in order for the club to advance.

In addition, Otumfuo prolonged the head coach's contract for as long as was necessary, provided that the mission to further the club's development was met. He also provided the same instructions to the Interim Management Committee, also known as the IMC.

Kotoko is getting ready to begin its pre-season training in Beposo in front of the upcoming season, which is set to begin in September. They will kick off their season at the Baba Yara Stadium with a matchup versus Heart of Lions, which will be played at home.
