Man Before Court For Stealing 12 Laptops

Florent Nii Otu Quarshie is accused of stealing 12 laptop computers with a combined worth of GH69,586.00 from Ghana Reinsurance in Accra. An Accra Circuit Court has granted Florent Nii Otu Quarshie bail in the amount of GH70,000 with two sureties.

One of the requirements of the bail is that at least one of the sureties must be a public or civil servant earning a minimum of 1,500 Ghana cedis (GH) each month.

Quarshie, a 28-year-old porter, entered a not guilty plea to charges of unlawful entrance and stealing computers from the premises of Ghana Reinsurance in Ridge, Accra. He is accused of making off with the products after entering the building unlawfully.

After surveillance footage of him was provided to the police for their investigation, he was found out.

Kwabena Apoba, his cohort who remains at large, has been accused of dishonestly receiving the twelve computers.

The hearing on this matter will now take place on August 30th, 2023.

Kwame Asare Nkansah Abankwah, the person who filed the complaint, worked for Ghana Reinsurance PLC Ridge in Accra, according to the Chief Inspector of Police, Jonas Lawer.

According to the accusations brought up by the prosecution, Quarshie worked as a porter at Old Fadama, while Apoba ran a pub at Agbogbloshie.

It was stated that on June 19, 2023, at approximately 8:25 am, the complainant along with her colleagues re­ported to work and discovered that, burglars had invaded their offices and stolen 12 computers.

During the course of their investigation, the Police got footage from a CCTV camera that captured the theft.

The prosecution stated that Quarshie could be seen on the CCTV tape entering the offices on the basement floor, ground floor, and first floor, as well as exiting through the emergency exit door.

It was stated that the footage showed Quarshie carrying two 'Ghana Must Go' bags. This was supported by the evidence.

On July 26, 2023, the prosecution stated that the police obtained information that Quarshie was involved in another case and had been detained by the police at Nima. This information was presented as having been acquired on that day.

During the course of the investigation, Quarshie admitted to committing the crime and named one Patrick as an accomplice.

According to what was written, Quarshie confessed to the police that he and Patrick, his confederate, were the ones who delivered the laptop computers to Agbogbloshie, who then sold them to Apoba.

The prosecution said that Quarshie was unable to direct the police to Patrick's location.

The prosecutor stated that Quarshie had demonstrated how he committed the offence when they were at the scene of the crime.

It was said that attempts were being made to capture Apoba.
