Bimbila Residents Harvest Fuel from tanker Involved in Accident

A petrol tanker was involved in an accident at Bimbila in the Northern region’s Nanumba North municipality, spilling its contents.
The tanker collided with another truck and a police barrier near Lepusi around daybreak on Friday, December 2, 2022, before somersaulting numerous times and dumping its contents.

Residents regarded this as a windfall and raced to receive their piece of the loot.

According to a witness, Adam Abdullah, even though the police attempted to force the residents away, it was tough until the fire department arrived and began dumping water on the ground.

“The police tried to send them away but they were still fetching the petrol and couldn’t care less about the danger,” he stated.

According to Hudu Baba, the Northern Regional Public Relations Officer of the Fire Service, the gasoline tanker”s brakes failed, causing it to collide with another vehicle carrying varied beverages, smash through the police barrier, and tumble multiple times.

He stated that the fire department was ready to respond in the event of a fire.

He stated that while on standby, the team was also cooling the tanker to prevent it from overheating.

“We are in the harmattan season, and any little heat can cause a fire outbreak, so we are ensuring that the place is protected,” he said
