Youth Impact Parliament Explores Ghana's Legislative Realm in Educational Expedition

In a landmark educational trip, the Speaker and Members of the Third Parliament of Youth Impact Parliament (YIP) Ghana, a part of the Youth Impact Movement (YIM), embarked on a journey to the hallowed halls of the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana on Wednesday, November 29, 2023. The aim of the trip was to provide these young leaders with valuable insights into the workings of Ghana's legislative machinery.

First Session: Insights from Parliamentary Veterans

The educational expedition kicked off with an enlightening session in the Speakers Conference Room at the Speakers Block. Chaired by Hon. Kofi Attor, Chief of Staff at the Office of the Speaker of the 8th Parliament of the Republic and former MP for Ho Central, the session featured prominent facilitators, including Hon. Peter Nortsu Kotoe, Hon. Nelson Etse Dafeamekpor, H.E. Amb. Jonathan, and Supt. Rtd. Effia Tenge.

Topics covered included the history of Ghana's Parliament, its nature, functions, and powers, the pivotal roles played by parliamentary committees, and avenues for public engagement. The session concluded with an engaging question-and-answer segment moderated by Mr. Mustapha Ahmed, a PRO at Parliament, followed by a heartfelt vote of thanks from Mr. Jones Amegashie-Viglo, the Speaker of the Third Parliament of Youth Impact Parliament GH of YIM.



Second Session: Observing Parliament in Action



During the second phase of the trip, the members of YIP were granted access to the chambers of the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana, observing the proceedings from the prestigious Speaker's Gallery. The day's parliamentary session, presided over by Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of the 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic of Ghana, included prayers, communications, and the adoption of the Votes and Proceedings from the previous sitting.

Speaker Bagbin warmly acknowledged the presence of Youth Impact Parliament, singling out their leader, Jones Amegashie-Viglo, and recognizing Hon. Benjamin Komla Kpodo, MP for Ho Central. Mr. Speaker commended the youth group for their initiative and urged them to learn from and contribute to the practices of the Ghanaian Parliament.

Final Session: Building Connections and Expressing Gratitude

The trip concluded with an intimate session featuring Hon. Benjamin Komla Kpodo, Hon. Kobby Woyome, Hon. Jocelyn Tetteh, and Hon. Angela Alorwu-Tay interacting with the Speaker and Members of Youth Impact Parliament. A brief but meaningful exchange was followed by a photo session, marking the end of a day filled with insights and connections.

In expressing gratitude, Youth Impact Parliament extended special acknowledgments to its Patrons, Members, Supporters, and Promoters. The success of the trip was attributed to their collective contributions. As Youth Impact Parliament continues its mission of building capacity for youths globally, the organization calls for sustained support in shaping a brighter future for all.
