It’ll be difficult for Alan to accept running mate offer from Bawumia – Gyampo

Rumors have been swirling about the possibility of Alan Kyerematen being selected as the running mate to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, should he win the November 4 election.

However, a senior political science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Professor Ransford Gyampo, has highlighted the challenges that Kyerematen may face in accepting such an offer.

During an interview with Bernard Avle on The Point of View, broadcast on Citi TV, Professor Gyampo pointed out that Kyerematen might find it difficult to accept the role of running mate, given his long-standing involvement with the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He suggested that Kyerematen may adhere to the party's mantra of 'y3nim wo fri tete,' which translates to "we know what is in your heart," and may be reluctant to take a subordinate position.

"It depends on him, but I think that it may be quite difficult for Alan to accept to be Dr. Bawumia’s running mate, having been there from 2007 till now. I’m sure that he would want to subscribe to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) cliché of y3nim wo fri tete. And that may not, in my view, allow him to want to be a running mate to Dr. Bawumia,” Professor Gyampo remarked.

Professor Gyampo also suggested alternative paths that Kyerematen might consider. He noted that Kyerematen could potentially form alliances with other aspirants to create a formidable candidate or even decide to go the route of an independent candidate. Additionally, Kyerematen could choose to form his own political party, which would allow him to establish a distinct political presence.

Alan Kyerematen, initially one of the five candidates participating in the upcoming November 4 presidential primaries, recently withdrew from the race, citing alleged intimidation of his supporters and manipulation of the election in favor of one candidate.
