Lawyer Martin Kpebu, Academician professor Gyampo clash over Cecilia Dapaah's theft case

In a recent development, private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu expressed his belief that Ghanaians should be celebrating the scandal involving former Sanitation and Water Resources Minister, Cecilia Abena Dapaah.

Kpebu argued that this case has shed light on the questionable activities of some individuals within the government, despite President Akufo-Addo's previous denial of corruption. He further emphasized that the large sums of money involved in the case raise serious questions that require plausible explanations.

Contrasting Kpebu's celebratory stance, Prof Ransford Gyampo, a senior lecturer and political scientist at the University of Ghana, criticized President Akufo-Addo's comments regarding the ongoing investigation into the scandal.

The President's statement, accepting Dapaah's resignation while expressing hope for her exoneration, drew disapproval from Gyampo.

He believed that such remarks could potentially interfere with the independence and findings of the security agencies conducting the investigation. Gyampo pointed out that such comments could be perceived as undermining the investigative bodies' ability to work without influence.

Adding to the criticism, former Gender Minister Nana Oye Bampoe Addo also lashed out at President Akufo-Addo, particularly focusing on the content of the letter he issued accepting Dapaah's resignation.

Bampoe Addo demanded that the President disclose the source of the former Sanitation Minister's wealth, implying suspicion of possible corruption.
