New Developments in Cecilia Dapaah Theft Case: Four More Houses and Two Cars Linked to Stolen Funds Uncovered

Startling revelations have emerged in the ongoing investigation into the theft case involving the former Minister of Sanitation, Cecilia Dapaah. Police authorities have successfully uncovered four additional houses and two cars that were allegedly purchased with funds stolen from the ex-minister's residence. The case, which has captured public attention for over a month, took a dramatic turn with these recent discoveries.

Prosecutor DSP Emmanuel Nyamekye shared that the two cars were procured at a combined cost of GHC600,000. This significant development came to light after the most recent adjournment of the case on Wednesday, August 2, 2023.

In light of these findings, the prosecution has opted to replace the previous charge sheet with a revised version. Nevertheless, the accused individuals have yet to enter their pleas in response to the new charges.

As a result of these latest revelations, Kwaku Botwe, who was previously implicated as the alleged father of the former 18-year-old house help, has been discharged by the court following the amendment of the charge sheet. However, DSP Nyamekye disclosed that there are additional suspects who are still at large, and further properties linked to the stolen funds remain to be recovered.

The defense counsel argued that the accused individuals have been cooperating with the investigations during their month-long detention. They pleaded with the court for bail on behalf of their seven clients.

Judge Afia Owusua Appiah, while considering the pleas, granted bail to two of the accused individuals who are reportedly lactating mothers. These two were released on bail with a sum of GHC1 million, requiring three sureties for justification. Additionally, the sureties are obligated to submit their passports and Ghanaian national identity cards.

Judge Appiah further mandated the defense lawyers to provide substantiated evidence of the lactating status of the two individuals granted bail. She also directed them to formally apply for bail for the remaining accused parties.

The Cecilia Dapaah case has been adjourned to August 22, 2023, as the prosecution continues its comprehensive investigations.
