Atta Mills Didn't Need Millions Of Dollars In House To Survive – Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama remarked that his late predecessor, Preoffsoe John Evans Atta Mills, was modest.

He described the late President as a man of integrity, claiming that many people will attest to this.

"Atta Mills was a man of integrity, and we can all vouch for his integrity; he was a modest man who didn't need millions of dollars in his house to survive," Mr. Mahama said at the memorial lecture for the late Prof. Mills, which was conducted in Kumasi on Thursday, July 27.

In addition, Mr. Mahama stated that Professor Mills' qualities are in limited supply at present.

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) stated, "Those of us who worked closely with him will cherish his memory eternally.

This is why we continue to celebrate his life each year, not because we wish to worship him, but because his attributes are in such limited supply in Ghana today that we must continue to celebrate him and repeat his attributes so that those in public leadership today can learn from the man Atta Mills.

"Our economy is in a state of crisis, hardships are widespread, and corruption and thievery have become the norm rather than the exception.

"Impunity has engulfed our nation, and public officials act as if they own the country; ostentation has become the defining characteristic of those in office, and arrogance has become the defining trait of the current leadership.

"Today's events are diametrically opposed to the values that Atta Mills espoused," as evidenced by the current state of affairs.

At an earlier ceremony commemorating the eleventh anniversary of Professor Mills' death in Accra on Tuesday, July 24, 2023, Mr. Mahama stated, "He was not one to create power at all costs and manipulate state agencies to carry out his political will.

"The Electoral Commission (EC) was genuinely independent, and the judiciary did not fear offending the president with its verdicts.

He did not weaponize justice, in contrast to the current situation. I am one of his many disciples who have gone on to achieve success in our respective disciplines, as he was a great talent athlete.

"He held our social and moral values in the highest regard, so it is not surprising that he abhorred LGBTQ."

Mr. Mahama served as Prof. Mills' Vice President from 2009 until Prof. Mills' death on July 24, 2012.
