Bongo Senior High School holds Exhibition Day

The Bongo Senior High School(BONSEC) in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region, has held an Exhibition Day on the school premises.

The occasion was organized by the Visual Art Department of the school, to give the students in that field the platform, to exhibit their talent and creativity.

The programme, which was held at the forecourt of the Visual Art Department saw participants display some unique artifacts, designed clothes and paintings, to the admiration of all.

Some of their works included painting, multimedia art, ceramic flower vases, beautiful drawings on walls (mural), houses and storey buildings made of paper, paper bags, fans woven with straw, and others.

Ghanaweb's Upper East Regional Correspondent, Sarah Dubure, filed this report.

In his welcome address, the Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Samuel A. Akolga, commended the management of the school, the department and the organizers, for organizing such a programme.

He was also impressed with the great display of artwork, and called on all gathered, to give their utmost support, to make the programme a success.

The brain behind the programme , madam Georgina Owusu Tabiri,
intimated that the aim of the exercise was to create an avenue for the students to showcase their talent.

"Our aim for this exhibition is to provide a platform for our students to showcase their talents, creativity and innovation". She said.

She explained that this would serve as a motivation to their school, and other schools at large.

"Motivating not only our school, but also others from different schools". She noted.

She pointed that the initiative was a step in the right direction, as it would aid in displaying the creative prowess of students and teachers alike.

Miss Tabiri, who is a teacher in the Visual Art department, added that it would also help in raising funds for the school through the sale of their works.

She emphasized that they intended to enhance the reputation of the school through the exhibition as well.

She added that they also aspired to renovate the Art Department building, and acquire new tools and materials with the funds generated from the exhibition.

For his part, the headmaster of the school, Mr. Adimazoya, commended the Visual Art Department for their hardwork and dedication.

According to him, the academic excellence of the students in the past three years was an indication of their hard work.

He again commended them for consistently engaging students in practical activities, despite the challenges faced with regard to their finances and logistics.

The headmaster therefore called on philanthropists, old students, the PTA and stakeholders to lend the needed support to the school.

Taking them down memory lane, he noted that the Visual Art Department of the school commenced in the 2018-2019 academic year.

He further noted that it started with a staff strength of just three teachers. Two males and a females.

He quickly added that it now stood at four, comprising two females and two males teachers.

Mr. Adzimazoya stated that the first batch of students comprised 25 students 12 males and 13 females.

He said that a total of 22 students comprising 11 males and 11 females sat the WASSCE 2021.

He detailed that their academic performance in Ceramics, General Knowledge in Arts and Graphic Designed were 100%, 90.9% and 86.4% respectively

The headmaster indicated that it now stands at 49, comprising 41 males and 8 females.

He pointed that the results of the students in that department were exceptionally good.

He gave the breakdown as 100% for the performance in General Knowledge in Arts and 91.8% for the performance in Graphic Design.

He observed that the output from the department served as a source of encouragement to the students in the Home Economics department.

This, he said, consequently propelled students in the Clothing and Textiles unit to replace Chemistry with General Knowledge in Arts as an elective subject.

" This therefore led students in the Clothing and Textiles unit to replace Chemistry with General Knowledge in Art as an elective subject". He reveal.

He added that when they sat the WASSCE this time round, the school had a 100% pass for General Knowledge in Arts.
