Corruption Combat director petitions Otumfour over enstoolment of some chiefs, cites possible looming bloodshed

Source: Nana Peprah

The executive director for Corruption Combat International, Nana Kwadwo Amoah Ampem Okogyeabour, has petitioned the Ashanti Overlord, Otumfour Osei Tutu II, over what he describes as illegal enstoolment of some sub-chiefs by the Nyinataase chief at Ejisu- Manhyia.

According to him, should immediate action not be taken to prevent the installation of these new chiefs, there is the likelihood of bloodshed in the area.

Nana Amoah Ampem who adds as the investigative chief for Manhyia said, his intelligence has revealed that some youth who are not happy about the development are set to crash the chiefs, adding that there was an urgent need to intervene to prevent the chief from taking such an action.

In the petition, it reveals that the chief of Nyinataase who submits allegiance to the Ejisu- Manhyia chief has rather taken the law into his own hands to install some new sub-chiefs such as the Aduanahene, Aduanahemaa and the Nifahene.

According to the investigative chief, the Nyinataase chief has no power to do that, and his attempt to take such an action is what is breeding impending tension and violence in the area, hence his petition.

Apart from the petition being addressed to the Asantehene, other stakeholders such as the Ejisu divisional police commander and the crime officer, the Ejisu paramount chief Nana Afrane Okesse, the Ejisu MCE, the Ejisu Nyinataase chief and the Ejisu Manhyia chief, among others have been copied.

According to him, upon hearing the news, he initially engaged some stakeholders such as the Besease Nifahene who confirmed to him that the Ejisu paramount chief was aware, adding that the act totally defaults the Asante culture.

"I am by this letter petitioning your Royal Highness against the estoolment of Aduanahene, Aduanahemaa and Nifahene by the said chief of Nyinataase at Ejisu Manhyia. That the decision by the said chief of Ejisu- Nyinataase to enstool chiefs is highly against the traditions and the customary rites of Asanteman.

"That the said chief of Nyinataase is not the ligitimate royal of Ejisu- Manhyia and therefore reserves no right whatsoever to institute such measures. That, the said chief of Ejisu-Manhyia is not under the allegiance of the chief of Nyinataase and that, he has no right to undertake such action". Part of the petition reads.

In the petition, he further reveals that the Nyinataase chief was rather given land by the chief of Ejisu Manhyia, according to history. He said, this makes the Nyinataase chief a supposed submission of allegiance to the Manhyia chief. But, according to him, the Nyinataase chief has rather taken the law into his own hands to do otherwise.

He is therefore pleading with Otumfour Osei Tutu II to as a matter of urgency, intervene to cease fire and invite the Nyinataase chief to explain why he is abusing traditions.
