East Gonja: Police Inspector ‘caught’ in illegal lumber & Commercial charcoal trade

Police Officer stationed in Aburumase a Community in the East Gonja Municipality of the Savannah region has alledgedly been caught in a video dealing in illegal commercial charcoal trade and harvesting of
Rosewood.

Speaking to Bole based Nkilgi Fm, Mr. Jeremiah Seidu the programs Coordinator of an NGO called Jaksally said, any time the Community members go to seize wood lumber, large quantity of charcoal and send it to the Police station, the Police officer will release the items without the consent of the Community members.


In the recent happenings in Aburumase in the East Gonja Municipal which necessitated the recent video capturing of the Police officer in his illegal dealings, the Community members said; “We went and seized lumber and motorcycle in the bush from illegal chainsaw operators to be sent to the Police station, when we sent the motor bike and lumber to the Police station in the evening, the next morning we went and the Inspector had already released the motor to the illegal operators. we expressed our displeasure but he didn’t care.”



In another video made available to Bole based Nkilgi Fm, one will see the name of the Police station and the charcoal being processed by the Police officer with four chainsaw machines.

Also according to Mr. Jeremiah Seidu per investigations, the Police officer goes or send his men to the site after loading to pretend to arrest his workers and bring the charcoal to the station. He later release them and load the charcoal out for sale and this has been ongoing for the past 10 or more years of this Police Inspector’s presence in the area.

Community members of Aburumase said, the Police officer has been in this lumber and commercial charcoal illegalities and other social vices for a very long time now, which Community members are following to catch him on camera as they did on the wood and charcoal video.


The local Chairman of the Gonjaland Youth Association in the area mentioned that the Police Chief Inspectors 15 years in the area is disservice and so he is no longer needed any longer.
