NDC lawmakers in disarray over changes in leadership

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) legislative side of Ghana's Parliament appears to be dire straits following the announcement of three main changes in its leadership in the House Tuesday, January 24.

The news was greeted with widespread disapproval among some members of Parliament and political watchers who pooh-poohed the reasons advanced by the party for effecting the changes as flimsy.

About 77 NDC Members of Parliament are said to have signed a petition endorsing the appointment of Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as the new Minority Leader, 3News.com has reported.

The report indicated that the lawmakers believe the decision taken by the party is in the right direction.

Interestingly, the report said this comes few hours after about 48 other MPs signed a petition against the appointment of the new leadership, a decision they believe is unpopular and want it reversed.

The MPs have therefore called for an emergency meeting in Parliament with the party Chair - Johnson Asiedu Nketia - as well as the General-Secretary - Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey - expected to be in attendance.
