New tax for accessing Tamale International Airport just to drop-off a passenger?

The next time you intend to drop-off a passenger at the Tamale International Airport to board a plane, be prepared part away with an amount of ¢5.00 as a levy for accessing the place, a Tamale resident and socialite Hanan-Confidence Abdul has said.

He quizzed why one would have to be taxed in order to access the airport to drop-off a passenger to board a plane.

He wondered if there was such practice at any airport anywhere in the world and charged the Ghana Airport Company to come out and explain themselves.

"Someone should tell me why I have to pay 5 cedis in order to enter the Tamale International Airport to drop-off a passenger? Unless I’m mistaken or misinformed, which I doubt is the case, there’s no where in the world, one has to pay an amount of money in order to get access to an airport to drop-off a passenger.

"It’s different if the driver wants to park his car at the airport for a while, but to pay to drop-off a passenger? I’ve never heard of it before and I think that the Ghana airport company would have to explain to us the purpose of this so-called airport entry fee," he quizzed.

The prolific writer disclosed this in a Facebook post on Monday, July 31, 2023.

The known government critic believes that the operations of the Tamale International Airport ought to be in line with international standards, describing the move as a "day light robbery."

"An international airport should follow international standards. It’s not just about physical infrastructure. The operations should be standardized too. This is daylight robbery!!! When criminals rules, they regularise criminality!," he slammed.
