Wa Naa backs the relocation of the Wa Senior High School's Assembly hall project to T. I. Amass

The controversial decision by the Upper West Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, to relocate an Assembly Hall project from Wa Senior High School to the Wa T. I. Amass Senior High School was done with the blessings of the Wa Naa, the Palace has said.

In a press release dated March 5, 2023, the Overlord of the Wala Traditional Area jumped to the defense of the embattled Regional Minister who has come under heavy criticism for masterminding the relocation of the project from the Senior High School.

According to the statement, the decision to relocate the project received the "full blessings" of leaders of the Wala institutions of authority - the Wa Naa, Tendamba, Yari Naa and Regional Chief Imam.

The release titled, 'We do not support planned demonstration' was penned to disapprove of a planned peaceful demonstration on Wednesday, March 8, by past students of Wa Senior High School as well as well wishers, to compel Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih to do the needful by returning the project to the school.

The release signed by Naa Ali Pelpuo Seidu Yelmana,
Paramount Chief of Busa Traditional Area; Issah Boyong Suuri, Tendaana; Alhaji Salihu Moomen Sungumo Yari Naa and Alhaji Osman Mahama Kanihi, Regional Chief Imam, Wa Liman.

According to the statement, the Regional Minister engages the palace on all developmental projects in Wa, describing him as a "true son of the soil."

"We wish to also state that the Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, consults us on all matters relating to the development of Wa and from those consultations, we have come to know him as a true son of the soil who is passionate about the holistic development of the traditional area," the release said in part.

But reacting to the release on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, during Maaliyiri programme on Radio Mak, Abdul-Mujeeb Abdul-Rahman Abubakar, host of the show, rubbished the claims and wondered why elders of their stature could take such a decision by listening to only one party in a case.

He alleged that they took fat envelopes from the Regional Minister at the Palace hence, the shocking statement from the elders.

He accused them of having disappointed and betrayed the people that have placed their trust in them.

On the demonstration slated for tomorrow, he claimed he had information that the lives of the demonstrators was going to be in danger should the demonstration take place and has since called it off in order to protect the demonstrators.

However, one of the organisers of the demonstration who called into the programme revealed that a Press Conference would be organised instead.

We do not support planned demonstration

Our attention has been drawn to a flyer titled, BRING BACK PROJECT, in which some sons and daughters of ours seek to mobilise their colleagues to stage a demonstration on Wednesday, 8th March, 2023, against the Regional Minister.

As the leaders of the Wala institutions of authority, we wish to state categorically that we do not in anyway, shape or form, support the demonstration because we feel it will be counterproductive.

We wish to also state that the Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, consults us on all matters relating to the development of Wa and from those consultations, we have come to know him as a true son of the soil who is passionate about the holistic development of the traditional area.

We like all schools under our jurisdiction and want to see all of them develop. The decision to relocate the project has our full blessings and we entreat all true sons and daughters of Wa to follow our lead as together with the Regional Minister, we work assiduously to secure a dining hall project for the Wa Senior High School.
