Anhuntem Darmang: Odwira Festival well celebrated

The people of Anhuntem Darmang, who live in Nsawam in Ghana's Eastern Region, celebrated their yearly celebration, "Odwira Afahye."

This festival brought people from all around Ghana together to witness pristine customs, rejoice with them, and share their joy.

The major day for celebration traditions is Friday, October 6, 2023. This wonderful day is filled with traditional rituals that are extremely stringent. Miss any day over the festival season, but skipping this Friday will cost you dearly. On this day, the elders of the area performed various traditional rites before visiting "Nsoum River" where all necessary rituals are performed in order to converse with their ancestors. When the elders return from the Nsoum River, it is one of the most amazing moments. The neighborhood greets them with dancing and chants of "Odwira" all over. They are also greeted with food and led to the palace.

The major durbar took place at the community's durbar ground, where the Omankrado of Anhuntem Darmang, Nana Akyem Amponsah, and the elders of the land welcomed invited chiefs, family heads, political leaders, and the general public to honor the Odwira Afahye.

Hon. Frank Annor Dompreh, Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyiri, was the special invited guest for the occasion, and he utilized the occasion to appeal for unity and togetherness among the people of his district.

The Omankrado of Anhuntem Darmang Nana Akyem Amponsah spoke on the words of the MP, advising the community to constantly come together and love one another in order to avoid conflict and any other measures that will produce a quarrel between parties.

"Let all of us come together as one. Let all of us forgive each other, let go of all confusion, and continue to leave in peace and harmony."
He ended his speech by encouraging and extending special greetings from the main chief of the land to his people, and he assured them that the chief is with them spiritually and supports everything and all organized events.

Hon. Frank Annor Dompreh, the special invited guest, was dubbed "Opanyin a mpanyinfo nyinara suro" in the local language.

Finally, the MP enthusiastically financed a street festival to commemorate the occasion. The festival provided an opportunity for upcoming musicians from the region and surrounding communities to demonstrate their musical talents.

Float took place on Saturday morning as a way to help the residents of the neighborhood maintain good health via various physical exercises. In the evening, there was live band music. The turnout was fantastic.

Football Gala was planned to bring together several football teams from the community to compete for the grand prize. The cup was awarded to the gala winner.
