It pains me the only source of income for our musicians is when they get hit songs - Kobby Kyei laments

Mr. Augustus Koranteng Kyei, award-winning blogger, philanthropist, and CEO of Kobby Kyei News, often known as Kobby Kyei, has stated his dissatisfaction with the Ghanaian music system and how our musicians here make very little money for the songs they perform.

Blogger Kobby Kyei revealed to DjQwequ, the Co-Host for Well Known Show on Lovers TV Ghana, that musicians in foreign nations don't require popular songs to generate money. In addition, their entertainment system is well-structured allowing every musician to generate money even if their song fails to chart. Money is earned regardless of the venue where the song is played. Before a Ghanaian musician can generate money, he or she must first have a successful song.

"If your music becomes popular, you get shows to play. It pains me that the only source of income for our musicians is when their songs blow. You don't need a hot song in foreign countries to make money. You get money from radio and TV airplay. You get money when your song gets played at malls, supermarkets, barbershops, etc. because there is a system that captures all the revenues from such places. The copyright there is very tight."

"A Ghanaian musician can get a hit song without knowing it. Before he gets to know of it, someone has already made money out of your own song. Our copyright system here is not that strong".

He said this after his presentation at Central Music Seminar organized by Heritage Promotions for all industry players.
