UEW Co-operative Credit Union: Government should consider funding the credit unions - Vice Chairman, Mr Charles Coffie

Mr Charles Coffie, Vice Chairman for UEW Co-operative Credit Union has appeal to the Government of Ghana to consider providing funds to the credit unions.

Narrating his appeal to brand reporter DjQwequ during the grand opening of their new branch at Abura, Cape Coast, he said the Credit Union Association of Ghana has held a meeting with the Government and hoping their appeal will be considered to boost their financials adding that the government do support the banking sector but ignores the credit unions.

"Looking at the banking sector, the government provides help but looks like the credit unions are not considered. The Credit Unions are for the underprivileged and the poor. Therefore if the government chooses to provide assistance to various unions with sponsorships, the poverty level in the country will be minimized because the main objective of the credit unions is to assist the poor and the underprivileged. The credit unions fall part of the development agencies so if the government considers sponsoring certain aspect of the union, we can help the government to eradicate poverty in the system"

He also used the opportunity to urge members to resist from consistent and constant withdrawals and also pay their loans and avoid hidden to cut down "Bad debt"
