Shocking: 12 sakawa boys caught burying a newborn baby alive

The Port Harcourt Local Government Authority Area Security Watch and the Rivers State Neighbourhood Watch, in collaboration with the police, apprehended the suspects on the morning of August 23, 2023.

The arrests were prompted by credible information received from residents who witnessed a group of young boys engaging in incantations and digging near the waterfront.

Victor Ohaji, who serves as both the Chairman of PLGA Security Watch and Chief Security Officer of Eagle Island, shared the incident with reporters. Upon receiving the tip-off, Ohaji promptly alerted the Azikiwe Police Division in Diobi, Port Harcourt, as well as officials from the state neighbourhood agency.

Following this, Ohaji mobilized his team. However, upon reaching the reported spot by the waterfront, they found that the 'yahoo' boys had already left. Nevertheless, upon closer inspection, they noticed that the suspects had buried something at the waterfront.

Taking action, Ohaji instructed his team to excavate the area, revealing the lifeless body of a newborn baby boy. Working together with his team, the police, and neighbourhood watchmen, they combed the area for the suspects, ultimately spotting them exiting a hotel.

Upon digging the site, we found a newborn baby boy—healthy and well—but tragically buried. I quickly informed the Situation Officer of Eagle Island, who then relayed the information to the Divisional Police Officer he collaborates with.

Without delay, both the police and neighbourhood watchmen joined our efforts. We searched throughout Eagle Island, checking various hotels, and finally spotted the suspects leaving one of them. As soon as we approached, they fled, but we pursued and successfully apprehended all twelve suspects. We subsequently handed them over to the police along with the rescued baby.

In conclusion, the collaborative efforts of the Port Harcourt Local Government Authority Area Security Watch, Rivers State Neighbourhood Watch, and the police resulted in the apprehension of the suspects involved in this unfortunate incident. The rescue of the buried newborn baby boy underscores the importance of community vigilance and swift action in ensuring safety and justice.
