Neglected Takoradi to Agona Nkwanta road; Western Region GJA not happy about the silence of authorities.

The Ghana Journalists Association in the Western Region has voiced deep concern over the ongoing neglect of the Takoradi to Agona Nkwanta road by both the Ahanta West Municipal Assembly and the Western Regional Coordinating Council.

For the past three days, hundreds of travelers have found themselves stranded along the Ewusiejoe stretch of the Agona Nkwanta to Takoradi road in the Western Region.

This predicament resulted from an Ivorian-bound cargo truck becoming lodged in a significant rut at Ewusiejoe in the Ahanta West Municipal Assembly, rendering the road impassable.

The unfortunate situation unfolded as the truck, attempting to extricate itself from the rut, ultimately broke down. Consequently, numerous vehicles on both ends of the road have been immobilized, leaving scores of passengers stranded.

Desperation has grown to the point where some individuals have resorted to begging fellow commuters for sustenance, as they had not anticipated being marooned on the road for such an extended period.

Regrettably, this is not an isolated incident, as the deplorable state of the Agona Nkwanta to Takoradi road has previously caused significant traffic disruptions.

In a recent display of discontent, the Ahanta Traditional Council organized a protest to underscore the road's deteriorating condition.

The Ghana Journalists Association in the Western Region in a statement, expressed their distress, questioning the lack of prompt and effective action from the authorities, including the Ahanta West Municipal Assembly and the Western Regional Coordinating Council.
Their statement posits whether these agencies are overwhelmed by the situation or simply indifferent to it.

The journalists' statement emphasized the precarious plight of passengers, including mothers with infants, the elderly, the young, and individuals with health issues, who have been forced to spend two nights in their stranded vehicles, exposed to a myriad of dangers.
Notably, the road is home to numerous companies, and it remains unclear why these enterprises have not been enlisted to assist in resolving the situation.

In a collective plea, the journalists call upon the Ahanta West Municipal Assembly, the Western Region Coordinating Council, and the companies operating along the Takoradi to Agona Nkwanta road to urgently collaborate and address the situation.

They stressed that it would be regrettable if concrete action is only taken after potential loss of lives and property.

Furthermore, the statement urged the government to view this incident as a pressing demand from the people of Ahanta West and the broader Western Region for a lasting solution to the deteriorating state of the Takoradi to Agona Nkwanta Road.

The journalists commit to continuing their media advocacy to highlight not only the worsening road conditions but also other developmental challenges in the region, maintaining professionalism and fearlessness in their reporting.
