Another one for the history books.
Greece made their first appearance ever in the Rugby League world cup yesterday.
The debutants took on the hosts of the first ever Rugby League World Cup, France at the Eco-Power Stadium in Doncaster.
Rugby league in Greece was deemed illegal because of a dispute over the sportβs governing body. It was only in August the Greek Rugby League Association (now the Greek Rugby League Federation) was recognised by the Greek government.
Despite their challenges which included dodging police raids, secret matches at Midnight and even training without lights at night sometimes, the Greek team gave France a run for their money.
First half ended 20 - 0 in favor of France.
Second half saw Siteni Taukamo score the first try for Greece with a conversion from Lachlan Ilias. The Greeks fought really hard but France dominated, emerging winners of the match by 34 - 12.
