There’s proof that Africa had a system of writing – Click To Read
Many historians of Africa did not believe that African societies had any kind of writing heritage until recently. Since the recovery of old manuscript collections, some dating back to the 8th century A.D., this view has steadily lost favour.
About 250,000 antique manuscripts from Timbuktu libraries survive in Ethiopia today. Thousands of records from the medieval Sudanese empire of Makuria, written in at least eight different languages, have also been discovered at the southern Egyptian site of Qasr Ibrim.
Thousands of more old manuscripts have survived in the western African cities of Chinguetti, Walata, Oudane, Kano, and Agadez.
