Tamale, GHANA - Simba Ghana, a leading Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), is making significant strides in enhancing safe spaces for young people, women, and girls in underprivileged communities across Ghana. Since its inception in 2013, the NGO has been steadfast in its mission to empower these groups and ensure their voices are respected, considered, and promoted.
Simba Ghana’s work revolves around three core areas: youth empowerment, education, and governance and peacebuilding. Through Convening, Capacity-building, and Advocacy (CCA), the organisation has successfully influenced young people’s participation in local governance processes.
Governance Structure
Simba Ghana operates under a General Assembly, comprising founding members and subscribers responsible for electing the Board of Directors (BoD). The BoD consists of a Chairman, six other Board Members, and the Executive Director who serves as a Secretary to the Board.
Vision and Mission
Simba Ghana envisions a just, prosperous, and sustainable Africa where young people can thrive and succeed. The organisation’s mission is to empower young people, women, and girls both in and out of school through capacity building and career development activities. This enables them to have stronger and coordinated voices, become active citizens, and meaningfully contribute to the development of their communities.
Objectives and Thematic Areas
Simba Ghana aims to promote youth, women, and girls’ voices, participation, and inclusion in local, community, and national structures and in decision-making processes. The organisation serves as a hub for these groups to build their capacities, become aware of their rights, and improve their living standards.
The NGO’s work is categorised into three thematic areas:
Youth Empowerment: This includes youth participation in preventing sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), youth leadership development, youth in agriculture and agri-business, youth in environmental governance and climate change, and youth employability skills.
Education: Simba Ghana works towards improving literacy outcomes and promoting access and quality education.
Governance and Peace-building: The organisation promotes youth participation in decision-making, local governance accountability, peace and social cohesion, and preventing violent extremism.
